Q:
I've recently purchased a XONE:1D, XONE:2D and XONE:42. I'm using them with TRAKTOR PRO but I can't seem to be able to record.
Please could you advise me on how to configure my setup in order to record my sets?
A:
If you want to record a mix back into TRAKTOR PRO and are using the XONE:2D as the A-2-D/D-2-A interface for TRAKTOR,
you will need to make a physical connection from the RECORD OUTPUT of the XONE:42 to a stereo INPUT on the XONE:2D;
this set up can be configured as follows:
1. Connect a stereo RCA cable from the RECORD OUT sockets on the XONE:42 to one of the (3 available) XONE:2D stereo soundcard INPUTS;
2. Ensure that these XONE:2D INPUTS are set to LINE level.
3. In TRAKTOR, go to: PREFERENCES > AUDIO SETUP > AUDIO DEVICE
Select 'XONE:2D USB ASIO driver' as TRAKTOR’s Audio Device.
4. Under: PREFERENCES > INPUT ROUTING, set the corresponding XONE:2D, stereo INPUT, soundcard bus;
'Xone 2D Analogue In (1-6)', to any unused INPUT CHANNEL (A-D).
5. Next, in: PREFERENCES > RECORDING > SOURCE > EXTERNAL INPUT,
set the External Input channel (as selected in step 3) for TRAKTOR's external recording source; setting the File Directory options as required.
6. Use the RECORD tab in TRAKTOR's AUDIO RECORDER (at the top right of the main browser), to start/stop the recording.
Configured in this way, your recording will be sourced from the XONE:42 main MIX bus; the signal is sourced POST channel fader levels,
but PRE main MIX level, so the GAIN level control in TRAKTOR's AUDIO RECORDER should be used to set the overall level for your recording;
this will not be affected by changes made to the XONE:42 main MIX level feeding FOH and / or monitors.

On the description it says: There’s even a USB port which allows easy connection to a computer and integration of digital media, which can be used to play back music files from a laptop and to record mixes, or used with software as a digital DJ effects unit.
Does this mean I can plug the Xone 42 straight into my mac without a A6 to control Traktor. I dont want to use the mixer for DVS. If this is not possible then is there a mixer that has a built in USB interface which I can run Traktor off of (under £400) Hehe, I saw this on TA thanks to Konix.

ALLEN & HEATH ADDS XONE:42 USB MIXER TO LEADING DJ RANGE
Allen & Heath has made an addition to the leading Xone DJ range, with the launch of the Xone:42 high performance 4-channel DJ mixer with USB audio interface.
'Designed to seamlessly interface with current leading edge DJ technology, the Xone:42 has an ergonomic, intuitive layout, making it one of the easiest to use hi-tech mix tools around,' comments Xone Designer, Andy Rigby-Jones.
The Xone:42's feature set is built around 4 dual-input stereo channels; channels 1 and 4 are phono/line, while channels 2 and 3 are line/line. All four channels have a powerful +6dB to total kill 3-band EQ, a 9-segment 3-colour bar meter, gain control, and 60mm VCA faders with illuminated X/Y crossfader selection. Xone's legendary Voltage Control Filter is included on each channel via illuminated assignment switches, with selectable filter type, resonance, and frequency controls.
The mixer sports a new and original feature - the 'X-FX' system - enabling an external effects processor to be easily interfaced. A single knob controls the proportion of the channel signal sent to the effects unit, from 0 to 100%, and the affected signal is returned to the main mix, or can be routed through the filter.
The Xone:42 incorporates a USB audio interface for easy connection to a computer and integration of digital media. It can be used to play back music files from a laptop and to record mixes from the Xone:42, or, when used with appropriate software, as a digital DJ effects unit that can be patched into the X-FX system. The USB input combines with an XLR microphone input to provide an additional channel with two band EQ and rotary level control.
The mixer also features a 45mm VCA crossfader with curve control, and a powerful monitoring section with split cue control, mix to cue, two headphone outputs (1/4' and 3.5mm), dedicated booth output, and balanced main mix outputs on XLR.
SRP is £599 (ex VAT) and the mixer will be available from autumn 2007.
